Build at the end of the seventeenth century. After more than two hundred years Johann Boos born in 1847,
expended me so he could use me for farming purposes. In 1847 they called me „Restaurant Johann Boos“.
They bought chairs and tables and offered foot and drink, mainly to hauliers who were on their way with their horse-drawn wagons
to the weekly market in Boppard on the river Rhine. In 1906 they gave me a new name and called me „Gasthaus zur Katz“
(TheCat Inn). They gave me this name because I am close to a former Roman transport route. Along these routes there were
higher points which the Romans called „Katzenköpfe“ (Cat Heads). They used them for observation and just behind where I am
standing, there was such a observation point. That is how I came by my name „Gasthaus zur Katz“: On the 1st April 1880 , Johann
Boos wife gave birth to a baby girl and years later this young woman married Johan n Becker from Karbach, whom
everybody called „Katze Hannes“. On 12th November 1908, Johann Becker`s son, Karl Becker was born.
He married Maria Leininger from Lamscheid, the grandmother of the presentday owners. In 1913 a dance floor was added and
later in 1939, the first guests stayed over-night. Then the 2nd World War started and my boss Karl Becker served as a soldier
and was later imprisoned by the Russians. We were so happy when we got the news that he would soon return.
They scrubbed, polished and decorated me with finery, a pig was slaugthered and prepared. The delicious smell of freshly backed
cakes and cookies drifted through my rooms. Everybody was excited and waiting for Karl. Then the sad news arrived, Karl had
died on 18th September 1946 during his transportation back home, weakened by his suffering during the war and his
imprisonment. Now Maria Becker had to run the buisness on her own with her three sons Karl-Josef, Helmut an Heinz.
In 1958, Maria`s second son, Helmut married Marianne Meiers from Halsenbach. They immediatly took over responsibility for the
business. In the following years, I lost some parts, got new ones, some old parts were renovated. All in all, I grew und grew: larger
rooms, windows blocked, new windows opened, ballroom renovated, restrooms modernized, a professional 70 sqm kitchen added.
I was especially plaeced about the indoor pool and the sauna. I think our guests were happy too.
Once I heard Maria say: „If we carry on like this, we all going down the tubes. But things turned out well in the end.
In the following years , Marianne and Helmut worked hard and in 1959 their biggest wish, a baby, became reality.
Four more children followed, each warmly welcomed. Nowadays two of these five „little cats“, Wolfgang the oldest son and Sylvia
The youngest daughter are my bosses. In the last 10 years there has been more renovation and
work done– everything with my guest`s comfort in mind. I hope to wellcome you soon as my guests.
If you have enjoyed your visit, please tell your friends. If you haven`t then please tell
my two bosses, so that the story of the „Katz“ can continue.
